A branching logic quiz (also known as conditional or skip logic) dynamically changes the questions or results a quiz taker sees based on their previous answers.
This allows you to create a more customized, relevant quiz experience for every quiz taker.
Use branching logic when you want to:
Show different follow-up questions based on specific answers
Skip questions that aren’t relevant
Send quiz takers directly to a result
Create highly personalized quiz paths
⚠️ Important: When branching logic is enabled, the back button and progress bar aren’t available, and there isn’t a way to override that at this time.
How Scored and Assessment Quizzes Normally Work
Scored Quizzes:
Each answer choice is assigned a custom score.
As the quiz taker answers questions, their total score is calculated by summing the scores of their selected answers.
Each result is tied to a score range.
After completing the quiz, the quiz taker receives the result corresponding to the range their total score falls into.
This calculation is automatic when branching logic is not enabled.
Assessment Quizzes:
Each question has a correct answer (or multiple correct answers).
The quiz calculates how many answers the quiz taker gets correct.
Based on the total number of correct answers, the quiz assigns a result, such as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.

When you enable Branching Logic in a Scored or Assessment quiz:
You cannot use automatic result calculation.
You must manually assign a result to every branch of the quiz.

Step 1: Plan Before You Build
Planning upfront makes branching logic dramatically easier to build (and easier to debug).
Decide on the following before you enable branching logic:
Your quiz paths
Write out the main “routes” a quiz taker can take (a simple flow chart or bullet list is enough).
Your questions and results
Before enabling branching logic, make sure you’ve created all required questions and results in the main quiz builder.
💡 Note: You can switch back and forth between the quiz builder and the branching logic builder at any time to add more questions as needed.
⚠️ Important Warning: If you begin mapping before your questions/results exist, you’ll have to keep stopping to go back and create missing items.
Step 2: Open The Quiz
Log in to your Interact dashboard.
Find the quiz you want to edit.
Click Edit to open the quiz builder.

In the quiz builder, find Branching Logic.
Select Enable Logic.

Step 5: Create your Branching Logic Map
This is where you build the quiz flow by connecting questions and results.
Drag your first question into the builder.
Connect it to the Start block using the connectors.
Drag in additional questions to build your branching logic map.
Continue adding follow-up questions and results until every possible path ends in a result.
Best practice:
Manually assigning results gives you full control over the quiz experience.
💡 Note: Branching logic maps can get large, so zoom out on your browser in order to see the entire map within your screen.
