How This Quiz Type Works
Before you start configuring settings, it helps to understand how scoring works in this quiz type.
Every question has answer choices, and every answer choice has a point value.
When someone completes the quiz:
Each selected answer adds points to the quiz taker’s total score
The total score is matched to a defined score range
The score range determines which result the quiz taker receives
⚠️ Important: This quiz type uses point totals and score ranges. You’re not connecting answers to results using +1 correlations.

This guide uses a simple Scored quiz example throughout. Here’s how it’s structured:
Each question has answer choices worth a certain number of points
The quiz taker’s total score increases as they answer questions
Results are assigned by score range (for example: 0–6, 7–12, 13–18, etc.)
3 results: Bold Editorial, Classic Minimal, Warm and Playful
💡 Note: Your score ranges should cover every possible total score a quiz taker can earn.
Step 1: Plan Before You Build
Planning upfront saves time and helps you spot imbalances (like one result having many more chances to earn points than the others).
Decide on the following before you open the builder:
Your results
These are the outcomes your quiz can assign (styles, types, recommendations, etc.). Write a short description for each result so it’s clear what it represents.

Warm and Playful
Your questions
Write questions that help you assess whatever you’re scoring (knowledge, readiness, skill level, etc.).
Your answer choices
Write answer choices that clearly represent different “levels” of the behavior/knowledge you’re measuring.
Your scoring plan (worksheet)
Map your scoring system before entering it into Interact. This makes it easier to spot issues (like accidentally assigning the highest score to an answer that should be low).

⚠️ Important: If you change your quiz type after setting up scoring, re-check your scoring setup. Quiz-type changes can require rebuilding logic depending on what you switch to.
Step 2: Open The Quiz
Log in to the Interact dashboard.
Find the quiz.
Click Edit (or click the pencil icon) to open the quiz builder.
Step 3: Select a question
In the left sidebar, click Questions.
Select the question whose scores you want to configure.
Step 4: Set Answer Scores
This is where you assign point values to each answer choice.
Click Set Answer Scores for the selected question.
Assign a point value to each answer choice according to your scoring system.
Click Save (use the exact button label shown in your builder).
❗ Important: If a Save button is shown inside the scoring view, you must click it to apply your changes.
Repeat for Every Question
Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 until every question in your quiz has answer scores configured.
⚠️ Important: If you skip scoring on a question, that question won’t contribute to the total the way you expect, and results may be inaccurate.
Step 5: Configure Score Ranges for Results
After answer choices have points, you need to define what score totals map to each result.
In the left sidebar, click Results.
On the results page, click Score Ranges.
Define the score ranges that correspond to each result or outcome.
Click Save (use the exact button label shown in your builder).
⚠️ Important: Make sure your score ranges do not leave gaps. If someone earns a total score that isn’t covered by any range, they may not receive the intended result.
Displaying the Score on the Result Page
You can choose whether to show the quiz taker’s score on the result screen.
Step 1: Open result page settings
Click into the result page you want to edit.
Click Settings on your quiz result page.
Step 2: Choose whether to show the score
To hide the score on your results page, toggle off Show user’s score.
If you’d like to display the score, toggle this option on.
💡 Tip: To show a score out of the total possible points, customize the Score Text.
For example: “Out of 12, you scored ____.”
Build Balanced and Accurate Quiz Scoring
Your scoring should make it possible for quiz takers to land in every result range.
A simple way to check your setup:
Estimate the minimum possible total score (if someone chooses the lowest-point answer every time)
Estimate the maximum possible total score (if someone chooses the highest-point answer every time)
Confirm your score ranges fully cover that entire span
💡 Note: If your maximum possible total is 20 points, but your highest result range starts at 25, no one can ever receive that top result.
Tie Guidance
In scored quizzes, “ties” usually show up as boundary issues rather than two results sharing the same total.
To prevent edge-case problems:
Avoid overlapping score ranges
Make sure every possible total score is covered by exactly one range
Test scores that land exactly on the edge of a range (example: the score where one range ends and the next begins)
❗ Important: If you’re unsure how a boundary score is handled in your current setup, confirm it by preview-testing that exact total.
Test your Scoring
Testing helps you confirm that your point values and score ranges produce the result you expect.
Step 1: Create an expected-answer path for every result
For each result, write down one set of answers that should produce a score inside that result’s range.
Step 2: Preview the quiz
Take the quiz using the intended answer path.
Step 3: Confirm the correct result appears
Confirm the result matches the score range you planned.
Step 4: Test mixed answer combinations
Check for:
A result that appears too frequently
A result that never appears
Scores that don’t land in the range you expected
A question where an answer choice seems scored backwards (high points for a “low” answer, or low points for a “high” answer)
Save and publish
Save your question scoring changes.
Save your result score range changes.
Click Publish.
Click Publish changes.
Take the live version once more after publishing.
⚠️ Remember: Changes aren’t live until you publish.
Troubleshooting
