Add questions to collect the information you need, then edit their wording, answer choices, and settings in the form builder.

Written by Damaris Pacheco

This guide walks you through adding and managing questions in an Interact form.

You’ll be able to:

  • Choose a question type

  • Edit question text and descriptions

  • Add and update answer choices

  • Make questions required

  • Allow multiple selections and set selection limits

  • Reorder, duplicate, and delete questions

  • Preview your changes before publishing

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • An Interact account with access to Forms

  • An existing form, or a new blank form

  • The questions and information you want to collect

💡 Note: Form questions appear between the Welcome and Thank you screens. People answer one question per screen.

Step 1: Open Your Form

  1. Log in to your Interact dashboard.

  2. Click Forms in the left sidebar.

  3. Find your form and click Edit. If you’re viewing its overview, click Edit form.

  4. Find Questions on the left side of the builder.

To start a new form, click Create form in the Forms dashboard, then choose Blank form or a template.

Step 2: Add a Question

  1. Click + (Add question) next to Questions.

  2. Choose the question type you want to add.

  3. Click Ask a question on the canvas and enter your question.

  4. Add a description or answer choices as needed.

  5. Repeat these steps to add more questions.

Choose a question type

There are eight question types available:

Group

Text

Long text

Feedback, comments, and longer answers

💡 Note: Choose the type that matches the information you need. For example, use Email for an email address and Long text for open-ended feedback.

Step 3: Edit Question Text and Descriptions

  1. Click a question in the list on the left.

  2. Click its heading on the canvas to edit the question text.

  3. Click Description (optional), or the existing description, to add or update supporting text.

  4. Use the side panel to adjust the settings available for that question type.

For example, an event registration form could use:

  • Question: Which workshop would you like to attend?

  • Description: Select the session that best matches your interests.

Add placeholder text

A placeholder gives people an example or prompt inside an empty answer field.

  1. Select the question you want to edit.

  2. If the side panel includes Placeholder, enter the text you want to display.

  3. Preview the question to check how it appears.

For a dropdown, you could use “Choose a workshop” as the placeholder.

💡 Note: Use the description for instructions people need while answering. Placeholder text is a prompt for an empty field, rather than an answer choice.

Step 4: Add and Edit Answer Choices

For Multiple choice and Dropdown questions, manage the answers under Options in the side panel.

  1. Select the question in the list on the left.

  2. Click an option field and enter the answer text.

  3. Click Add option to add another answer.

  4. Repeat until you’ve added all your choices.

Reorder answer choices

Use the drag handle beside an option in the side panel to move it into the order you want.

Remove an answer choice

Click Remove option beside the answer you want to remove.

💡 Note: Keep answer choices clear and distinct so people can choose the response that fits best.

Step 5: Make a Question Required

  1. Select the question in the list on the left.

  2. Find Required in the side panel.

  3. Turn it on if people must answer before continuing.

Leave Required off when an answer is optional.

Step 6: Allow Multiple Selections

Use this setting when a Multiple choice question should accept more than one answer.

  1. Select the multiple choice question.

  2. Turn on Allow multiple in the side panel.

  3. Under Selections, enter a Min or Max if you want to limit the number of answers people can select.

  4. Leave the selection-limit fields blank if you don’t want to set a limit.

For example, you could let people choose up to three workshop topics by setting Max to 3.

💡 Note: Allow multiple applies to multiple choice questions. Use Required when everyone must provide an answer, and preview any minimum or maximum selection limits you set.

Step 7: Organize Your Questions

Reorder questions

Use the drag handle beside a question in the left-hand list to move it to a different position. Review the sequence so the questions flow naturally from one to the next.

Duplicate a question

  1. Open the question’s actions menu in the list on the left.

  2. Click Duplicate.

  3. Select the copy and edit its wording, answer choices, and settings as needed.

Delete a question

  1. Open the question’s actions menu in the list on the left.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. Follow any confirmation shown before completing the deletion.

💡 Note: Review which question you’ve selected before deleting it. If you only need to change the wording, edit the existing question instead.

Step 8: Preview and Publish Your Changes

  1. Wait for All changes saved at the top of the builder.

  2. Click Preview—the ▶ button next to Publish.

  3. Complete the form as a visitor would.

  4. Switch between Desktop and Mobile to review both layouts.

  5. Close the preview and make any adjustments.

  6. When you’re ready, click Publish, then Publish changes in the confirmation dialog.

Check that:

  • Questions and descriptions are clear

  • Answer choices appear in the right order

  • Required questions cannot be skipped

  • Multiple selections and any selection limits work as expected

  • The question sequence makes sense

💡 Note: Responses submitted in preview aren’t saved.
