This guide walks you through connecting Interact with MailerLite so quiz leads are automatically added as new contacts in your MailerLite account. You’ll be able to:

  • Send quiz leads to MailerLite in real time

  • Choose which MailerLite subscriber group new leads should be added to

  • Map quiz results and answers to MailerLite custom fields

  • Use quiz data for segmentation, automation, and email campaigns

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • An active Interact account

  • An active MailerLite account

  • Access to API tokens in MailerLite

  • At least one created quiz in Interact

💡 Note: This feature is only available in the latest Interact user dashboard at app.tryinteract.com. Log in there to access it.

Step 1. Get your MailerLite API token

  1. Log in to your MailerLite account.

  2. Go to Integrations.

  3. In the API section, click Use.

  4. Click Generate New Token.

  5. Create a new API token:

    1. Enter a name for your token (for example, Interact Integration).

    2. Select All IPs Allowed.

    3. Check the box confirming you’ve read the API token requirements.

    4. Click Create Token.

  6. Copy the API token. You’ll need this token for the next steps in the setup process.

⚠️ Keep your API token secure. For security reasons, it will not be shown again after you leave the token screen.

Step 2. Connect MailerLite integration

  1. Log in to Interact.

  2. From your dashboard, go to Quizzes.

  3. Click Edit to open quiz builder.

  4. Go to Lead Generation > Integrations.

  5. Find MailerLite and click Connect.

  6. Paste your MailerLite API token.

  7. Click Connect.

You’ll see a confirmation once the connection is successful.

Step 3. Map quiz results to MailerLite

When someone completes your quiz, Interact can take different actions in MailerLite based on the quiz result they receive.

  1. In the integration setup flow, go to the Results step.

  2. You’ll see each quiz result listed separately.

For each quiz result, you can choose what happens in MailerLite by adding actions.

❗ Important: Each quiz result must have Add to subscriber group set . If a result does not have "Add to subscriber group” configured, contacts who get that result will not be added to MailerLite.

Available actions for MailerLite include:

  • Add to Subscriber Group

  • Update Custom field

Add contacts to Mailerlite Subscriber Group

When someone completes your quiz, Interact can add them to a MailerLite contact list.

  1. Click Add actions.

  2. Find Add to Subscriber Group.

  3. Select the MailerLite list from the dropdown you want quiz leads added to.

💡 Tip: Many customers create one subscriber group per quiz result to keep segmentation clean.

Update Custom Field

You can store the quiz result directly on the MailerLite contact record using a custom field.

  1. Click Add actions.

  2. Find Update Custom field.

  3. Select a MailerLite custom field.

  4. The value defaults to the quiz result title, but can be customized if necessary.

❗ Important: If a field isn’t appearing as an option, create the custom field in MailerLite first, then return to Interact and refresh the dropdown.

Step 4. Map quiz answers to MailerLite (optional)

In addition to quiz results, you can also send individual quiz answers to MailerLite and use them for segmentation and automation.

This works the same way as mapping quiz results, but instead of triggering actions based on the final result, actions are triggered based on how someone answers a specific question.

💡 Tip: Quiz answers are great for capturing preferences, intent, or qualifiers (for example: budget, experience level, or goals).

Step 5. Configure MailerLite Unsubscribe settings

After the Answers step, configure Unsubscribe behavior for contacts added to MailerLite.

  1. In the integration setup flow, go to the Settings step.

  2. Enable or disable previously unsubscribed recipients to be reactivated.

Step 6. Map opt‑in form fields to MailerLite

Next, connect your Interact opt‑in form fields to MailerLite custom fields.

  1. Go to the Fields step in the setup flow.

  2. You’ll see Interact fields on the left and MailerLite field mappings on the right.

  3. Click the dropdown on the right of the form field you want to map (None Selected means it is not mapped).

  4. Select a MailerLite field.

❗ Important: Interact currently supports mapping values to Text contact fields in Mailerlite only.

Step 7. Send a test lead

Before your integration is fully active, you’ll need to send a test lead.

This step verifies the connection between Interact and MailerLite and activates the integration.

  1. Click Send test lead.

  2. Fill out all Opt-In Form fields to send as test lead information.

  3. (Optional) Navigate to Quiz Data tab to customize test quiz data.

  4. Click Send test lead to submit.

  5. Log in to MailerLite and verify the contact was created successfully.

Step 8. Publish your quiz

Any changes you make to your integration won’t be live until your quiz is published.

Before sharing your quiz:

  1. Click Publish in the top-right corner of the quiz editor.

  2. Confirm your changes by clicking Publish changes.

Once published, your MailerLite integration will be active on the live version of your quiz.

⚠️ Remember: After making changes to your integration or opt-in form, publish all changes to update your live quiz.

FAQs

How does Interact handle existing contacts in MailerLite?

  • When a quiz lead is sent to MailerLite, MailerLite uses the email address to identify the contact.

    Here’s how it works:

    • If no existing contact is found, a new contact is created.

    • If an existing contact is found, the contact is updated with the latest quiz data (lists, custom fields, etc.).

I am receiving an error when sending a test lead, what can I do to fix this?

  • Common reasons a test lead fails:

    • The contact is unsubscribed or was previously deleted. Use a brand-new email address, or use a variation (for example, add a “+test” alias).

    • Missing required fields. Make sure your Interact opt-in form collects the fields you need, and map those fields in the Fields step.

Disable MailerLite integration for your quiz

If you want to stop sending leads from a specific quiz to MailerLite, you can disable the integration without disconnecting your MailerLite account.

  1. Edit the quiz in Interact.

  2. Go to Lead Generation > Integrations.

  3. Navigate to Connect step.

  4. Click Disable.

⚠️ Remember: After making changes to your integration or opt-in form, publish all changes to update your live quiz.

Once disabled, new quiz submissions from this quiz will no longer be sent to MailerLite. Your MailerLite account remains connected and other quizzes are unaffected.

❗ Important: After disconnecting an integration from your quiz, your opt-in form will remain disabled until a new or existing integration is connected. Select .csv File Download to keep your opt-in form enabled with no integration connected.

Disconnect your MailerLite account

Disconnecting your MailerLite account removes the authentication between Interact and MailerLite entirely. This is similar to uninstalling the integration.

  1. Log in to your Interact dashboard.

  2. Go to Integrations.

  3. Find MailerLite.

  4. Click Disconnect.

❗ Important: After disconnecting your Mailerlite integration, the following effects occur:

  • All Mailerlite integrations across all quizzes will stop working.

  • No new quiz leads will be sent to Mailerlite.

  • Existing profiles in Mailerlite are not removed.

If you reconnect Mailerlite later, you’ll need to reconfigure the integration for each quiz.
