How to Add a Quiz as a Announcement Bar to WordPress

This article describes how to add an Interact quiz as an announcement bar on your WordPress site.

This guide walks you through displaying an Interact quiz as an announcement bar in WordPress using the Interact plugin.

You’ll be able to:

  • Add your quiz as an announcement bar

  • Control how and where the announcement bar appears

  • Confirm the announcement bar loads correctly on your live site

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • An active Interact account

  • At least one created quiz in Interact

  • Your quiz is published in Interact

  • Access to edit your WordPress site

❗ Important: If you’re using WordPress.com, plugins are only available starting with the WordPress Business plan.

💡 Note: If you don’t see the announcement bar immediately after setup, save your changes and refresh your live site to confirm it’s showing.

Step 1. Get your Interact Announcement Bar ID

  1. Log in to Interact.

  2. Locate the quiz you want to add as an announcement bar.

  3. Click the Share & Embed tab.

  4. Click the Announcement tab.

  5. Click the WordPress tab.

  6. Under Activate the quiz to promote, toggle Promote on.

  7. Customize your announcement bar using the available options.

    • To limit which WordPress pages your announcement bar appears on, use the Edit the Announcement Bar visibility section and add the specific URL paths you want included.

  8. Click Copy ID.

❗ Important: You can have 1 quiz announcement bar running at a time.

Step 2. Add the Announcement Bar to WordPress

You’ll install the Interact plugin (if needed) and paste your Promotion ID into WordPress.

Add an Announcement Bar using the Interact plugin

  1. Log in to WordPress.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click Plugins.

  3. Search for Interact.

  4. Click Install, then click Activate.

  5. In the left-hand menu, click Settings.

  6. Click Interact.

  7. Paste the ID you copied from Interact into the Promotion ID box.

  8. Click Set Promotion ID.

💡 Note: After you set the Promotion ID, refresh your site to confirm the announcement bar is displaying.

Step 3. View the Announcement Bar on your live site

  1. Open your WordPress site in an incognito/private window.

  2. Confirm the announcement bar is visible and links/opens as expected based on your announcement bar settings.

💡 Tip: If you changed visibility rules (URL paths), make sure you’re testing on a page that matches those rules.

Step 4. Test the Announcement Bar

Confirm the quiz experience works end-to-end from the announcement bar.

  1. Click the announcement bar as a visitor would.

  2. Take the quiz.

  3. If your quiz includes an opt-in form, submit the form to confirm it appears and can be completed.

⚠️ Warning: If you’re testing an opt-in form, use a real email you can access so you can verify follow-up emails (if you have them enabled).

Step 5. Publish your WordPress changes

WordPress changes won’t be visible to visitors until they’re saved (and your site is publicly accessible).

  1. Confirm the plugin is Active under Plugins.

  2. In Settings → Interact, confirm you clicked Set Promotion ID.

  3. Confirm your site (and the pages you’re testing) are accessible to visitors (not private, restricted, or in maintenance mode).

❗ Important: If you paste the Promotion ID but don’t click Set Promotion ID, the announcement bar won’t appear for visitors.

FAQs

Why can’t I see the Announcement Bar in WordPress?

  • Confirm the Interact plugin is Installed and Active, then go to Settings → Interact and confirm your Promotion ID is set.

  • If you limited visibility by URL paths, confirm you’re viewing a page that matches those paths.

Do I need to update the Promotion ID when I edit my quiz?

  • Usually, no. In most cases you can keep the same Promotion ID, but you must Publish your quiz in Interact for changes to appear on your live version.

How can I replace what quiz is shown in the Announcement Bar?

  • If you want a different quiz to appear, copy the new quiz’s Announcement Bar ID and replace the existing Promotion ID in WordPress.

    1. In Interact, open the new quiz you want to promote.

    2. Go to Share & Embed → Announcement → WordPress and click Copy ID.

    3. In WordPress, go to Settings → Interact.

    4. Replace the existing value in Promotion ID with the new ID.

    5. Click Set Promotion ID.
