How Scored and Assessment Quizzes Normally Work

Scored Quizzes:

  • Each answer choice is assigned a custom score.

  • As the quiz taker answers questions, their total score is calculated by summing the scores of their selected answers.

  • Each result is tied to a score range.

  • After completing the quiz, the quiz taker receives the result corresponding to the range their total score falls into.

  • This calculation is automatic when branching logic is not enabled.

Assessment Quizzes:

  • Each question has a correct answer (or multiple correct answers).

  • The quiz calculates how many answers the quiz taker gets correct.

  • Based on the total number of correct answers, the quiz assigns a result, such as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.

  • This calculation is automatic when branching logic is not enabled.

Important:

Automatic scoring does not work with branching logic.

Branching Logic Overview

When you enable Branching Logic:

  • You cannot use "Calculate Result" automatically.

  • You must manually assign a result to every branch of the quiz.

Why: Branching means quiz takers do not answer all questions, which breaks the usual scoring or assessment logic.

Rule: Every possible path through your quiz must end with a manually assigned result.

Before You Enable Branching Logic

Step 1: From your Quiz Dashboard, click Edit on your quiz.

Step 2: Make sure the following are fully completed before building your map:

  • Cover Page

  • All Quiz Questions

  • All Result Pages

Having everything created first will make mapping much easier.

Building Your Branching Map

Step 1: Go to the Branching Logic section and Enable Logic.

Step 2: In the Branching Logic Map, drag and drop your first quiz question onto the map.

Step 3: Connect the Start Block to your first question.

  • All quiz takers will receive this first question.

Step 4: For each answer choice, drag connections to:

  • The next follow-up question, or

  • A Result Page if this is the end of a branch.

Step 5: Repeat for all questions, ensuring every path ends in a specific Result Page.

Important Tips:

  • If a branch is not connected to a result, the quiz will not function properly.

  • Keep your first question broad to effectively segment quiz takers.

  • Map your logic on paper first if your quiz has multiple paths.

  • Test every branch before publishing to ensure smooth flow.

Step 6: Click Save Map & Go Back

Step 7: Click Publish and Publish Changes to make your updates live.

Your quiz is now live and ready to be taken by quiz takers.
