This guide walks you through connecting Interact with Campaign Monitor so quiz leads are automatically added as subscribers in your Campaign Monitor account.

You’ll be able to:

  • Send quiz leads to Campaign Monitor in real time

  • Choose which Campaign Monitor list new leads should be added to

  • Map quiz results and answers to Campaign Monitor custom fields

  • Use quiz data for segmentation, automation, and email campaigns

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • An active Interact account

  • An active Campaign Monitor account

  • Permission to authorize OAuth connections in Campaign Monitor

  • At least one created quiz in Interact

💡 Note: This feature is only available in the latest Interact user dashboard at app.tryinteract.com. Log in there to access it.

Step 1. Connect Campaign Monitor integration

  1. Log in to Interact.

  2. From your dashboard, go to Quizzes.

  3. Click Edit to open quiz builder.

  4. Go to Lead Generation > Integrations.

  5. Find Campaign Monitor and click Connect.

  6. In the Campaign Monitor authorization window, log in with your Campaign Monitor credentials (if prompted).

  7. Click Authorize (or Allow) to grant Interact access.

  8. Select the Campaign Monitor Client you are going to use for your quiz.

You’ll see a confirmation once the connection is successful.

⚠️ Keep your Campaign Monitor login secure. Anyone with access to your Campaign Monitor account can add or update contacts.

Step 2. Map quiz results to Campaign Monitor

When someone completes your quiz, Interact can take different actions in Campaign Monitor based on the quiz result they receive.

  1. In the integration setup flow, go to the Results step.

  2. You’ll see each quiz result listed separately.

For each quiz result, you can choose what happens in Campaign Monitor by adding actions.

Available actions for Campaign Monitor include:

  • Add to list

  • Update custom field

❗ Important: Each quiz result must have Add to list set. This ensures every lead is added to a Campaign Monitor list for that result.

❗ Important: Campaign Monitor custom fields are connected to specific lists. Adding to a list is required for any other actions you want to take for a result or answer (including updating custom fields).

Add contacts to a Campaign Monitor list

When someone completes your quiz, Interact can add them to a Campaign Monitor list.

  1. Click Add actions.

  2. Find Add to list.

  3. Select the Campaign Monitor list from the dropdown you want quiz leads added to.

💡 Tip: Many customers create one Campaign Monitor list per quiz to keep segmentation clean.

Save the quiz result as a custom field

You can store the quiz result directly on the Campaign Monitor subscriber record.

  1. Click Add actions.

  2. Find Update custom field.

  3. Select the Campaign Monitor custom field you want to update.

  4. The value defaults to the quiz result title, but can be customized if necessary.

This will update the Campaign Monitor custom field you select to the value you define, which allows you to:

  • Segment contacts by quiz result

  • Trigger Campaign Monitor automations

  • Personalize email content dynamically

Step 3. Map opt‑in form fields to Campaign Monitor

Next, connect your Interact opt‑in form fields to Campaign Monitor fields and custom fields.

  1. Go to the Fields step in the setup flow.

  2. You’ll see Interact fields on the left and Campaign Monitor field mappings on the right.

  3. Click the dropdown on the right of the form field you want to map (None Selected means it is not mapped).

  4. Select the Campaign Monitor field or custom field you want to map into.

⚠️ Default fields (cannot be changed) include Email and First Name.

Step 6. Send a test lead

Before your integration is fully active, you’ll need to send a test lead.

This step verifies the connection between Interact and Campaign Monitor and activates the integration.

  1. Click Send test lead.

  2. Fill out all Opt-In Form fields to send as test lead information.

  3. (Optional) Navigate to Quiz Data tab to customize test quiz data.

  4. Click Send test lead to submit.

  5. Log in to Campaign Monitor and verify the subscriber was created successfully.

Step 7. Publish your quiz

Any changes you make to your integration won’t be live until your quiz is published.

Before sharing your quiz:

  1. Click Publish in the top-right corner of the quiz editor.

  2. Confirm your changes by clicking Publish changes.

Once published, your Campaign Monitor integration will be active on the live version of your quiz.

⚠️ Remember: After making changes to your integration or opt-in form, publish all changes to update your live quiz.

FAQs

How do you create new Campaign Monitor custom fields?

  • Step 1: In your Campaign Monitor account, click Lists & subscribers in the header and click the list where you want to add custom fields.
Step 2: In the right sidebar, click Custom Fields.
Step 3: Enter a value for the name of the custom field, choose type Text from the Data Type dropdown and click Add custom field.

Why did my test lead fail?

  • Common reasons include:

    1. Missing required fields If your Campaign Monitor list requires certain fields, make sure you map all required fields in the Fields step before sending a test lead.

    2. Double opt-in is enabled If Double opt-in is turned on in the Settings step, check the confirmation email and confirm the subscription. The subscriber may not appear as active until confirmation is completed.

Disable Campaign Monitor integration for your quiz

If you want to stop sending leads from a specific quiz to Campaign Monitor, you can disable the integration without disconnecting your Campaign Monitor account.

  1. Edit the quiz in Interact.

  2. Go to Lead Generation > Integrations.

  3. Navigate to the Connect step.

  4. Click Disable.

⚠️ Remember: After making changes to your integration or opt-in form, publish all changes to update your live quiz.

Once disabled, new quiz submissions from this quiz will no longer be sent to Campaign Monitor. Your Campaign Monitor account remains connected and other quizzes are unaffected.

❗ Important: After disconnecting an integration from your quiz, your opt-in form will remain disabled until a new or existing integration is connected. Select .csv File Download to keep your opt-in form enabled with no integration connected.

Disconnect your Campaign Monitor account

Disconnecting your Campaign Monitor account removes the authentication between Interact and Campaign Monitor entirely. This is similar to uninstalling the integration.

  1. Log in to your Interact dashboard.

  2. Go to Integrations.

  3. Find Campaign Monitor.

  4. Click Disconnect.

❗ Important: After disconnecting your Campaign Monitor integration, the following effects occur:

  • All Campaign Monitor integrations across all quizzes will stop working.

  • No new quiz leads will be sent to Campaign Monitor.

  • Existing subscribers in Campaign Monitor are not removed.

If you reconnect Campaign Monitor later, you’ll need to reconfigure the integration for each quiz.
